Balk triumphs as Cusworth rounds off 2013 Valentine tourney

The 12th in the series of the annual Valentine golf tournament came to a thrilling end at the golf section of Ikoyi club with Mrs. Y.M Balk emerging the overall winner of the keenly contested 18-holes competition.

To come top, the big hitting Mrs Balk netted a score of 67th, winning by three-shots. Paired in a group which comprised of three former lady captains at the section, Balk remained undaunted in her quest to remain at the top of the pack at the end of the competition.

But it was not all Balk’s affair as E. Anukwuem came in the second position after shooting a net score of 70, beating the third placed Joel G. on count back. Joel also sign for 70-net.

In the second category opened to lady golfers within the handicap range of 0-36, Mrs. I. Onukwuba with a net

score of 73 led the category, leaving Mrs. Schultssak D with a 78-net score in the second position. David T. was One-shot further down the winners chart at 79.

Other winners in the ladies category are; Mercy Freely, who won the longest drive on hole-18 and Gassauert who won the nearest to the pin on hole 18 as well.

The one-day competition which also had men playing as guest saw Remi Olukoya, Oyaide, Adebesin, Ogunrinde and Semowo winning prizes.

Speaking at a packed closing dinner on Tuesday evening, Bola Cusworth who had consistently organised the tournament since 2000 thanked all those who made the dream a reality.

While singling out FirstBank and her committee members for their support over the years, she pledged to continually do all she can to make the event better.
