Asisat-Oshoala-Njoku

Nigeria have qualified for the final of this year’s African Women’s Championship after they beat South Africa 2-0 on Wednesday.

The win also guaranteed the Super Falcons a ticket to next year’s FIFA World Cup as the top three teams from this tournament will represent Africa at Canada 2014.

Nigeria will now await the winners of the other semi-final between Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire to determine Africa’s best women’s team for 2014.

It was a sweet revenge for the Falcons, who fell 1-0 at the same stage of the competition two years ago in Equatorial Guinea.

MVP of the match Asisat Oshoala grabbed a first-half brace in the 38th and 45th minutes to give Nigeria the lead.

Her first was a solo effort which saw her drive into the box before her final shot received a big deflection into the net.

While her second was from distance as her lob caught the south Africa goalkeeper off her lines.

The MVP of the recent FIFA U20 World Cup in Canada has now scored three goals at this AWC.

However, Jane van Wyk pulled a goal back for Banyana Banyana in the 68th minute to keep this encounter on the edge till the final whistle.

It was a rather controversial decision as the referee insisted that a hopeful long ball, which was cleared off the goal line by Ngozi Ebere, had crossed the goalline.
