Arsenal have reportedly entered the race to sign Victor Osimhen and have reached out to his agent, with the Gunners prepared to trigger his €75 million release clause as an alternative to Martin Zubimendi.
The Napoli striker, currently on a season-long loan at Galatasaray, is considered one of the best strikers in the world and has attracted interest from several top European clubs.
According to a report by BusinessDay, Manchester United have almost finalized their pursuit of Osimhen and are willing to include Rasmus Hojlund in a deal with Napoli to bring the Nigerian striker to Old Trafford instead of paying his €75 million release clause outright.
United are in desperate need of a prolific striker in the summer transfer window, as neither Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee has proven to be a consistent goalscorer.
Gabriel Jesus has struggled for consistency and Kai Havertz has not been clinical enough in front of goal and the Gunners will have to battle United for Osimhen’s signature.
Osimhen has been in stellar form, scoring 20 goals and providing five assists in 27 appearances this season. He has been described as a “world-class striker” by Fenerbahçe head coach José Mourinho.
According to Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba, Arsenal have made official contact with the striker’s camp and are ready to activate his release clause.
Laba wrote on X: “Excl: Arsenal conclude plans for Striker option in Dubai.
“- Sesko: AFC & Leipzig agreed on a deal last season but he decided to stay back.
“- Victor Osimhen: Arsenal officially made contact with Osimhen’s camp last week. They’re willing to trigger the new release clause.”
