Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim described his team as “soft” despite staging a comeback from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.

United remain 15th in the Premier League standings, 13 points clear of the relegation zone, but their struggles under Amorim continue, with just 15 points from a possible 45 since he took charge in November.

“The worst part is that we are losing the ball without pressure and not doing what we need to do. We were soft,” Amorim admitted.

“In this moment, we need to focus on the day-to-day. We need to survive this season and then we can think ahead.

“I don’t want to focus only on the negatives. In the second half, we were close to winning this game.”

While United struggle under their new boss, Everton have thrived since David Moyes’ return last month.

The Toffees, previously in a relegation battle, have now taken 14 points from their last six games, climbing to 12th place.

Moyes was disappointed not to secure all three points after a dominant first half but acknowledged the impact of Bruno Fernandes, who dictated play after the break.

“We should have been three up; I don’t think that would have been undeserved,” said Moyes.

“2-0 is always a dangerous lead. United had nothing to lose, and they came at us.

“I don’t think it was just about what we lacked. Bruno played well. They dropped him deeper, he got more of the ball, and that made it harder for us.”
