Olukunmi Adekunle, Captain of the Abeokuta Golf Club has disclosed that the Club welcomes no fewer than 120 Golfers from more than 26 clubs across the country – Nigeria and Ghana to the prestigious Abeokuta Golf Course located at the back Oke-Mosan Government Secretariat in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.

The 6th Open Golf Competition tagged 6th Governor’s Cup Tournament was held on Saturday in honour of Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun State who officially teed off the competition that was sponsored by Park Inn by Radisson Hotels, Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation, Ogun State Housing Corporation, Mercy Group Clinics, Ecogas Cooking Gas, among others.

Speaking further on the 6th Governor’s Cup Tournament in Abeokuta, Captain Adekunle said that the Golf Tournament featured professional and amateur golfers where various exciting prizes and trophies were won, having played on 18 holes course here in Abeokuta sitting on undulating topography.

Also, Retired Justice Ademola Bakre, who is the Chairman Board of Trustees of Abeokuta Golf Club, noted that the establishment of Abeokuta Golf Club was done to direct youths attention to sports, especially Golf with a view to getting their attention off crimes and inculcate healthy living among them.

Meanwhile, Captain of Abeokuta Golf Club said that the Club was working towards “establishment of Golf Academy for youths and promote Golf for Heath for all. We respectively request this administration to be kindly disposed to it and generously finance it. We have already constructed a practice range for beginners.

“We urge government of Ogun state to include Golf in the budgetary allocation of the Ministry of Youths and Sports and the Sports Council and encourage Golf in the extra curricular activities of Primary and Secondary institutions in the State. This is to ‘catch them young’ and win laurels for the State in National and International Sports Festival.”
