Tunisia’s new coach Sami Trabelsi has unveiled that he will religuise his position as head coach should the Carthage Eagles faill to pick 2026 World Cup ticket.

“The first objective of my contract with the Tunisian Football Federation is to qualify the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and if we do not achieve this goal, I will immediately leave my position without hesitation,” Trabelsi said.

The 57-year-old former national team player made this known during the recent press conference for his official presentation by the Tunisian Football Federation.

He disclosed that his first priority would be returning Tunisia back to its glory heads on the continent. “I will strive with the entire technical team to achieve what we hope for.”

Trabelsi already have his job well cut out as Tunisia get set for the fifth and sixth Matchday of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Malawi in March.

Tunisia currently top Group H with 10 points from three wins and a draw, after four rounds of matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Trabelsi will lead the Tunisian national team for the second time after a previous stint between 2011 and 2013.

He had notably taken his country to victory the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2011 in Sudan.

The Tunisian coach will also be responsible for bringing the Carthage Eagles back on the right track on the continental scene.

The next edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2025 offers the right atmosphere for Trabelsi to correct Tunisia’s poor outing recorded in previous editions.
