Lagos, Nigeria – Humanizing Art Part II: The Anatomy of Perception opens as a groundbreaking touring exhibition that explores the intimate relationship between art, the human body, and the inner worlds that shape how we experience life. Curated by Atinuke Akinyanbola, founder of The Curator’s Project and Axora Virtual, the exhibition marks a new chapter in how art is created, experienced, archived, and remembered in Lagos and beyond. Presented in collaboration with Axora Virtual, a subsidiary of The Curator’s Project, this exhibition extends the humanizing experience of art into the virtual realm, inviting audiences to engage with art in multiple dimensions.

“This exhibition is not just about seeing sculptures; it is about feeling them, perceiving the human essence within, and connecting with the shared humanity behind each creation,” explains Atinuke Akinyanbola. “Art is not just something we look at; it is something that looks back at us. Each piece holds a fragment of the human experience, and in understanding it, we begin to understand ourselves.”

This is the first growing touring exhibition of its kind in Lagos. Unlike traditional static shows, the exhibition evolves at every location, introducing new sculptural works, perspectives, and technological layers. It is also the first exhibition in the city to bridge a previous virtual experience into a present physical reality, creating a continuous dialogue between what has been seen digitally and what is now being felt physically.

Rooted in sculpture and human body forms, the exhibition explores sight, touch, memory, emotion, and intuition. Through Axora Virtual’s immersive technology, these physical works are extended into interactive digital environments, offering audiences new ways to engage with art. “As we move forward as a society alongside technology, I believe it is important to use it thoughtfully, not just to document or archive, but to create experiences that live on, that people can return to and feel again,” says Akinyanbola. “Art has this power to make moments timeless, and technology can help us share that intimacy with more people, preserving not just objects, but the feelings they evoke.” This approach also introduces a new system of archiving and documentation, preserving not only the visual form of artworks, but their emotional, sensory, and human impact, opening Lagos-based art practices to both local and international audiences in unprecedented ways.

At the heart of this project is The Curator’s Project, an art agency committed to creating safe, nurturing spaces where African artists can create freely. The platform encourages experimentation, storytelling, and cultural authenticity, allowing artists to explore identity, memory, and heritage without constraint.

Axora Virtual extends this mission through sensory driven technology, creating immersive pathways that deepen meaning rather than replace it. “The Anatomy of Perception invites audiences to look beyond the form of each sculpture and into the human experience it embodies. Every piece carries fragments of the artist’s life, their emotions, struggles, and perspective,” Akinyanbola explains.

Together, these platforms are redefining the art landscape, not only in how art is displayed, but in how it is experienced, preserved, and shared. This exhibition represents a shift driven by community, by artist-centered care, and by the belief that art should be lived, not merely observed.

Humanizing Art Part II: The Anatomy of Perception invites audiences to slow down, become more aware of their own inner worlds, and reconnect with their shared humanity. It is not simply an exhibition. It is a growing movement, shaped by people, powered by culture, and guided by Atinuke Akinyanbola’s vision for a more immersive, inclusive, and transformative future of art.

“Art is more than just something to admire; it’s an experience to be felt, created, and shared” Atinuke Akinyanbola
