How Aspira Nigeria is building a local FMCG powerhouse in one of Africa’s most competitive consumer markets.

The global dishwashing liquids market is on a steep upward trajectory. Valued at an estimated $19.27 billion in 2025 and projected to hit $31.56 billion by 2032 at a CAGR of 7.3 percent (Persistence Market Research, 2025), the sector represents one of consumer goods’ most resilient growth stories. Nigeria, with a population exceeding 220 million and an increasingly urban, hygiene-conscious middle class, is one of sub-Saharan Africa’s most strategically significant markets within that picture.

Viva Plus Dishwashing Liquid, the flagship liquid cleaning brand from Aspira Nigeria Limited, is one of the brands competing for share of Nigeria’s dishwashing segment, a category that includes a growing number of other domestically manufactured products alongside imported ones. Founded in 2009 and headquartered at a manufacturing plant in Kano, Aspira built a multi-brand portfolio of over eight product lines over more than a decade before launching Viva Plus Dishwashing Liquid in 2022 as its highest-profile commercial offering.

The brand’s concentrated formula, sold in Original, Zesty Lemon, and Antibacterial variants, targets the core pain points of Nigerian consumers: cutting through cooking oils, offering a germ-kill option for those who want it, and protecting hands during repeated daily use. Its distribution network spans hundreds of retailers across major urban and semi-urban markets, with online availability.

Manual dishwashing is projected to account for 64 percent of the global market in 2025. In Nigeria, where machine dishwashers remain rare in most households, that number runs considerably higher, making the liquid segment the primary battleground.

For investors and trade observers, Viva Plus offers a compelling case study in what domestic production, targeted brand positioning, and celebrity-driven market penetration can achieve in a high-growth consumer economy, in under four years since launch even in a segment where it is far from the only local contender.
