In a bold move to deepen the bond between Bolt and its driver-partners, Bolt, the leading ride-hailing company, organised an exciting novelty football match in Lagos, Nigeria.

The Drivers Novelty Match themed “Building a Stronger Community” aimed to strengthen the relationship between Bolt and its drivers, fostering a sense of partnership, demonstrating the platform’s commitment to their well-being, and recognising the instrumental role that drivers play in the ride-hailing ecosystem.

The event was organised in collaboration with esteemed partners including, the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF), Shecluded, and My Garage Africa.

The partners offered an array of tailored benefits for drivers such as; on the spot vehicle documentation renewal by the VIS, Financial Literacy talks by LSTEF towards Wealth Creation and Management, Shecluded offered access to loans for vehicle purchase and maintenance, MyGarage Africa offered grants of up to six hundred thousand naira to partners willing to lease out vehicles and to top it all the Bolt Operations and Customer Support Team were available on demand to proffer immediate solutions to drivers complaints and queries.

The event witnessed an enthusiastic participation of Bolt drivers from various locations across the city. The Drivers Novelty Match featured a series of friendly football matches, where drivers formed teams and showcased their sporting skills in a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition.

The matches were accompanied by lively music, entertainment, and refreshments, creating a festive atmosphere that brought drivers and their families together in a relaxed and enjoyable setting to celebrate their contributions.

The event also provided an opportunity for drivers to interact with Bolt’s management team, fostering open lines of communication and allowing drivers to express their concerns, suggestions, and aspirations.

Bolt representatives were present at the event, engaging in conversations with the drivers, and providing them with valuable insights into upcoming initiatives, incentives, and support programs designed to enhance their experience on the platform.

The event was kicked off by Yahaya Mohammed, Bolt’s Country Manager and Engr Olasunkanmi Ojowuro, Director of Transport Operations who encouraged the drivers to take advantage of the bonding and socialising opportunity.

Speaking to the drivers at the match, Yahaya said, “I am thrilled to witness the incredible comradeship and passion displayed by our drivers at this novelty football match.

This event exemplifies Bolt’s unwavering commitment to driver engagement and satisfaction. We believe in fostering a strong sense of community and building meaningful relationships with our drivers. Through initiatives like this, we are not just a ride-hailing platform; we are a supportive and vibrant community that values the contributions of our drivers.

Together, we are driving towards a future of excellence in service and driver empowerment.”

Engr Ojowuro said “it is not just a game; this event provided a unique opportunity for drivers to forge connections with one another and establish meaningful relationships with the ride-hailing platform.

Through the power of sports, Bolt created an enjoyable and interactive environment that fostered camaraderie among drivers, cultivating a sense of community within the industry”.

A representative of the drivers said, “I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in this football match. In times past, there’s been talk of Bolt not valuing their drivers or placing more value on their riders.

Today’s event has proven that this is not so. It’s absolutely mind blowing to experience such love and affection from the Bolt team. This was a laudable idea, the novelty game, as it brought together drivers from all parts of the state and made great relationships that will come to fruition and bring the drivers closer to the bolt hierarchy.”

The match was immediately followed by a presentation of outstanding prizes to the participants.

The winning team received a cash prize of N250,000, alongside the runner-up and third-place teams who received N150,000 and N100,000 respectively. Lots of exciting prizes were also won by the drivers during the raffle draw.
