Troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces have destroyed terrorist camps linked to notorious leaders Bello Turji and Mallam Ila, neutralizing 25 terrorists in Zamfara State. The operation, part of the ongoing Operation Fansan Yamma, has been described as a significant step toward restoring peace and security in the North-West region.
The offensive, which targeted Fakai in Shinkafi Local Government Area, was launched on January 10 by troops of Sector 2, supported by airstrikes from the operation’s air component. During the raid, seven kidnapped victims managed to escape, while over 18 terrorists sustained gunshot wounds.
Confirming the operation’s success, Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre, noted the destruction of the camps and reiterated the military’s resolve to eradicate threats in the region.
“Operation Fansan Yamma will continue to pursue and neutralize all terrorist elements within its joint operation area. We assure the public of our commitment to restoring peace and security in the affected communities.
“The military operation, which included synchronized airstrikes and ground assaults, was executed with precision targeting enabled by an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platform”, Abdullahi stated.
Olusola Akinboyewa, (Air Vice Marshal) revealed that identified targets were struck with devastating accuracy, leading to the loss of several top commanders loyal to Bello Turji.
“Although Turji’s whereabouts remain unknown, the operation dealt a major setback to his network. Local reports indicate that bandits fleeing eastward from Fakai Hills were intercepted and neutralized by combined air and ground forces.
The military said it has renewed its call for all terrorists in the region to surrender unconditionally or face relentless operations aimed at dismantling their networks.
As Operation Fansan Yamma intensifies, the Armed Forces have reaffirmed their commitment to restoring peace and stability in the North-West, urging communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies.
