Mohammed was abducted from his residence at about 1am on Wednesday, a family source told BusinessDay correspondent in Jalingo.

The lawmaker is the minority leader and chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Information.

This is coming less than 48 hours after the state governor, Darius Dickson Ishaku assured the people of the state that the problem of insecurity was being tackled with greater zeal and determination to make farming and travelling safe in all parts of the state.

Gov Ishaku gave the assurance when a high-powered delegation of people from Gassol Local Government Area of the state paid him a thank you visit on Monday in Jalingo.

“I can confirm to you the kidnapping of Bashir Mohammed, the member representing Nguroje state constituency in the early hours of today, being Wednesday. As we speak, we are already trailing the kidnappers and hope to catch up with them soon and ensure his safe release.

“Let me also use this opportunity to appeal to anyone with useful intelligence to come forward to aid our work. I wish to, on behalf of the Commissioner, assure the people of the State of our unwavering resolve to rid the state of crime and provide safety for the people at all times,” Misal said.
