Christopher Musa, chief of defence staff (CDS), has raised concerns over the foreign funding of terrorist groups operating in Nigeria, stating that some apprehended or surrendered terrorists were found in possession of foreign currency.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News’ Morning Show on Monday, Musa emphasised the urgent need for a more proactive approach to tackling security challenges across the country.
He disclosed that the Nigerian military, in collaboration with international partners, is working to trace and block the sources of foreign financing that sustains these terrorist groups.
“Terrorism financing is the oxygen that sustains their operations. If we cut off their funding, they will naturally face extinction,” Musa stated.
He called on troops to intensify efforts against criminals, urging them to track and neutralise threats wherever they may arise.
The CDS reiterated his commitment to making a significant difference in combating insecurity in 2025.

“We are not where we want to be, but we are heading there. By working together, we shall overcome all acts of evil. Our task is to find the bad guys and take them down,” he said.
During the 2025 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, which featured a regimental dinner and an awards ceremony for outstanding military officers, Musa paid tribute to fallen heroes while celebrating the invaluable contributions of serving officers in the fight against terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.
President Bola Tinubu, represented by Benjamin Kalu, deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, joined military leaders and dignitaries at the ceremony.
Musa described the event as a dual opportunity to remember those who paid the ultimate price for Nigeria’s peace and to celebrate the resilience of current military personnel.
“We honour the bravery of our departed heroes and reaffirm our commitment to patriotism, loyalty, and dedication,” he said.
“While we celebrate our achievements, we remain aware of the challenges confronting our nation and the ongoing efforts to secure peace and stability,” he said.
The Nigerian military’s high command highlighted that the awards were integrated into the annual celebration to recognise exceptional service and inspire continued excellence among officers.
As the military intensifies its fight against insecurity, Musa’s reiterated nation’s resolve to dismantle the networks sustaining terrorism and restore peace across the country.
