The European Union, on Tuesday, in Kabul announced a new aid package of $45.4 million to help Afghans improve their basic health services.

The office of the EU delegation to Afghanistan said in a statement that it has made the fund available to support basic health and nutrition services for the Afghan population through the health program managed by the Ministry of Public Health.

The programme was known as System Enhancement for Health Action in Transition (SEHAT).

It said that the programme was to strengthen the overall capacity of the Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) to deliver a comprehensive package of health services to the population.

The programme would focus on increasing the access of mothers and children to reproductive, maternal and child health services.

It said it would also include improving operations, construction, renovation and maintenance of health facilities and equipment, upgrading quality control laboratories and strengthening MOPH human resources.
