The Association of Linguistics and Communication Studies/Igbo Students of Abia State University, Uturu have elected new executives for the 2012/2013 academic session.
The election took place Thursday last week, bringing in an 11-man executive council.
The electoral committee under the leadership of Christian Mbaogu gave their best to ensure free, fair and credible election.
Mbaogu, in a chat with BusinessDay, stated that the election was successful, because of the “relentless efforts of the committee members.”
On whether any of the candidates tampered with the electoral process in the course of the committee’s preparation, he said that none of the candidates lobbied them for any electoral malpractice.
“None of the candidates lobbied us. They couldn’t have done so because the committee members are people of integrity,” he affirmed.
He congratulated the winners and encouraged those who lost to accept defeat, urging them to continue politics beyond the university.
Bright Nwankwo, the newly elected president won with 103 votes, ahead of Daniel Ojukwu and Smart Ananaba who had 49 and 48 votes respectively.
The newly elected president expressed gratitude to God and his supporters for finding him worthy, promising to inject new ideas that would take the association to the next level.
He attributed the secret of his success to good relationship with fellow students which began in his first year, adding that organising tutorials for the junior students also contributed to it.
Other members of the newly elected executives included Ugochi Ibeh (vice-president), Emeka Uwalaka (secretary-general), Best Cornelius (assistant secretary-general), Uzoma Onuoha (financial secretary), and Williams Acholonu (treasurer).
The list also had Uchechukwu Obilor as director of welfare, Chinasa Osoka (public relations officer), Joshua Egbuta (director of socials), Goodnews Ekavhiare (director of sports), and Ezinne Akaa
