The Abia chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has suspended its eight-day-old strike embarked upon by its members to press for the implementation of Teachers’ Enhanced Salary Structure (TSS).

Enoch Omeoga, the state chairman of the union, announced this at a news briefing on Monday in Umuahia.

He directed teachers in the state to resume work on Tuesday May 7, noting that the suspension followed the intervention of Governor Theodore Orji.

Teachers in public primary and secondary schools had refused to resume for the third term on April 29.

Omeoga said that the union directed its members not to resume duties following government’s refusal to implement an agreement on the payment of TSS from January.
