The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has inducted 131 new members into its fold.
The LCCI called on its members to always strive to achieve high ethical and professional standards in their dealings.
According to the chamber, there was a need for businesses to assess the social impact of their enterprises in order to ensure that needs were adequately met while promoting sustainable agenda.
Nike Akande, president, LCCI, explained that as businessmen and women, there were obligations which transcend profit making, pointing out that adequate attention to integrity of business transactions and practices was essential to ensure business continuity and profitability.

She was speaking weekend at the induction ceremony of additional 131 new companies into the organisation.
This brought the total number of companies admitted into the chamber in the last two years to 465 companies.
The organisation also unveiled a directory for all its members and a membership and loyalty scheme which attracts discount when services are rendered.
Akande said, “I must commend the membership committee for a job well done. This is also a tribute to the rising profile of the chamber in recent times.”

She urged managers of the newly inducted firms to pay adequate attention to the integrity of their business transactions and practices, urging all of them to be committed to the ideals of high ethical standards and responsible corporate citizenship.
“Indeed, the chamber has a code of business ethics, which all members are to subscribe. Let me caution that a breach of this tradition of integrity and honour by any member will be viewed seriously and visited with appropriate sanctions,” Akande said.

Also speaking, Toki Mabogunje, vice-president of the chamber and chairperson of the Membership and Welfare Committee of the LCCI, assured the business owners that their decision to join the chamber was a smart one, adding that if the companies were actively engaged, they would reap the benefits.
According to her, benefits accruing to members of the LCCI included: access to business information; advocacy on issues that impact their businesses; chamber’s intervention with relevant organs of government for the firms and letters to embassies in support of visa applications, among others.
