Construction work has commenced on the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria’s (CIPM) ‘Millennium Building’ project estimated to cost N1 billion.
Abiola Popoola, president/chairman of Council, CIPM, at the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, said the institute was celebrating the visible beginning of another important milestone in the history of the institute.
Popoola noted that the project that was launched, required foresight, careful planning and focus, saying “this landmark ceremony, significant as it is, does not equate to the commencement of the project, far from it. A massive amount of pre-work has gone into making us arrive at this point. As the current leadership of the institute, the honour and privilege that we have is that we are the ones hosting this momentous occasion, which is the culmination of the hard work and effort put in by our great past leaders, for which we commend them.
“All of us here present are witnessing the unfolding of an important historical moment in our history; the turning of the sod of a contemporary, befitting structure for the use of members, partnering organisations and the general public. We appreciate the roles played by individuals, corporate organisations and service providers to get us thus far; thank you all very much.”
The CIPM president noted that as the owner of the project, the institute had committed and was still committing huge resources to this endeavour from its internally generated revenue as well as from a special capital development membership levy.
He said the institute was at the critical stage of execution, requiring greater financial and material resources from partners in progress, as it was the anticipation of the institute to see the successful completion of the project in 15 months’ time.”
