Ogun may extend documentation deadline on Homeowners’ Charter

Ogun State government says it is considering extending the February 28 deadline for on-going properties documentation under the Homeowners’ Charter launched in December last year to allow homeowners regularise the legal status and documentation of their properties. This consideration is sequel to complaints from concerned property owners in the state.

Although the scheme has received applause from the people of the state since its launch last December, a number of property owners have, however, flayed government for its slow pace and some challenges witnessed in the scheme, including shortage of personnel at the registration points and inadequate registration centres, urging government to extend the programme.

The state governor, Ibikunle Amosun, while monitoring the progress of the exercise in Ifo and Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Areas of the state, assured that all their complaints on the challenges observed in the scheme would be looked into, adding that more service centres would be provided with adequate personnel.

“I have received text messages and e-mails telling me that people want us to extend the programme, and having come around today and seen things for myself, we will hearken to their calls, go back home and see the possibility of extending it by a week or so; we will get more portakabins as well as increase service delivery to make sure that things are done without inconveniencing our people,” he said.

On the projected number of titled applicants which the governor put at 2,000,000, Governor Amosun expressed optimism that the figure would be more, urging property owners in the state to take advantage of the programme.

“The era of applying for Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) and other title documents and not getting it is over in this state. I am putting my integrity and that of the state on line and assure that things would not be like the past again,” he assured.
