Wike revokes land allocations of Bayelsa, Imo governors, 566 others over C-of-O fees

FG pledges judicial independence

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has revoked land allocations for several high-profile individuals, including state governors and political leaders, due to nonpayment of Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) fees.

Among those affected are the Governors of Bayelsa and Imo States, Senator Diri Douye and Senator Hope Uzodimma, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, and the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu. In total, 568 land allottees in Maitama II, Cadastral Zone A10, Abuja, have had their allocations withdrawn.

According to Lere Olayinka, the Minister’s media aide, the revocation followed the expiration of an extended two-week grace period granted to the landowners to settle their C-of-O bills. Despite this extension, only 194 of the 762 remaining allottees made the necessary payments, leaving 568 plots revoked.

Notable figures affected by this decision include former Enugu State Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Senate Minority Leader Abba Moro, and the Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, among others.

This action comes after an earlier directive in October 2024, where 3,273 landholders were given two weeks to clear their dues. While 2,511 complied, the remaining 762 were given additional time, leading to the current revocations.
