The All Progressives Congress in Plateau State has expressed readiness for its party primaries scheduled to begin on Saturday, following the conclusion of screening of aspirants ahead of the exercise, which it described as peaceful, transparent and free of complaints.
Wumana Bako, the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state said the screening process ended successfully across the state without rancour among aspirants and party stakeholders.
Bako disclosed this in a telephone interview with BusinessDay on Friday in Jos, noting that all aspirants who purchased nomination forms and appeared before the screening committee had accepted the outcome of the exercise.
He said the party was now preparing for the commencement of its primary elections, expressing confidence in the readiness of members and officials for the exercise across the state.
“We have concluded the screening exercise successfully in Plateau State. The process was peaceful and there was no rancour whatsoever among the aspirants,” Bako said.
“There are no aggrieved persons at the moment. All those who bought forms and participated in the screening are now waiting for the primaries, which we expect will also be transparent and successful,” he added.
BusinessDay reports that the House of Representatives primaries earlier scheduled for Friday have now been shifted to Saturday by the national secretariat of the party.
The postponement was announced in a press statement issued in Abuja on Thursday and signed by Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC.
According to the statement, the House of Representatives Primary Election for the 2027 General Elections will now hold on Saturday, May 16, 2026, while other primary election dates remain unchanged.
The statement further confirmed that the Senate primaries will hold on Monday, May 18, State House of Assembly primaries on Wednesday, May 20, governorship primaries on Thursday, May 21, and the presidential primary on Saturday, May 23, 2026.
The Plateau APC spokesman expressed confidence that the party would emerge stronger after the primaries, stressing that members were united and committed to the overall interest of the party in the state.
He further stated that party supporters and stakeholders were expecting a credible process capable of producing candidates who would strengthen the APC’s chances in future elections across Plateau State.
Bako called on aspirants and their supporters to remain peaceful and abide by the rules guiding the primaries, assuring that the party leadership was committed to fairness and internal democracy throughout the exercise.
He also maintained that the atmosphere within the party remained calm despite the adjustment in the House of Representatives primary election timetable announced by the national leadership.
BusinessDay observed that party faithful across Plateau State are now awaiting the commencement of the primaries as preparations intensify for the various contests scheduled by the APC national secretariat.
