Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has reaffirmed his commitment to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting he will not defect despite recent developments within the party. Mohammed expressed confidence that his faction would defeat the group allegedly led by Nyesom Wike, whom his faction accuses of working to ensure the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.

Bala Mohammed, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum chairman, made the declaration on Sunday while receiving Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and former Bayelsa State Governor Henry Seriake Dickson during a Sallah visit to Bauchi. His comments appear to have ended speculation regarding a potential move to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Reconciliation remains possible through the courts

“I have faced challenges and, unfortunately, I have always been in the opposition. But with all modesty and humility, God has always granted us victory, and we do not take it for granted,” Mohammed said. He added that the party is here to stay and will continue to serve Nigeria under any circumstances.

Addressing comments attributed to former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, who reportedly dismissed reconciliation with the Wike camp, Mohammed maintained that a resolution remains possible. He stated that the party would abide by the court’s decision regarding the ongoing crisis, noting that the Federal Court of Appeal is facilitating a solution.

Solidarity amidst leadership challenges

Governor Seyi Makinde described the visit as a show of solidarity, noting that while the PDP once had 14 governors, the core opposition has since narrowed. Mohammed praised Makinde as a “patriot” and an “uncommon politician” who remains straightforward in his convictions.

Seyi Makinde, Oyo State governor, stated that the visit was intended to pay Sallah homage and offer support to Mohammed during current leadership challenges. Makinde alleged that Nyesom Wike had pledged support for President Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections, claiming that anyone aligning with that group is indirectly supporting the current administration.
