…Party adopts direct primary as Anyim chairs committee
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed readiness for the conduct of its presidential primary scheduled for Saturday.
The party named Anyim Pius Anyim, former Senate President, as chairman of the presidential primary committee, while Aminu Masari, former Katsina State governor, will chair the presidential primary appeal committee.
President Bola Tinubu, who is seeking a second term in office, will face Stanley Osifo, an APC chieftain from Edo State, who is his lone challenger in the contest.
Both aspirants had obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms. While the APC waived Tinubu’s screening, Osifo appeared before the screening committee in Abuja and was cleared to participate in the primary.
In a statement issued Thursday night, Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the APC, said the party has adopted the direct mode of primary for the exercise.
According to the party, all registered APC members will be eligible to vote.
“The direct primary will be held across the 8,809 wards nationwide. Results from each ward will be collated at the local government level by collation officers appointed by the National Working Committee (NWC),” the statement added.
