Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, has reaffirmed the Senate’s dedication to progressive governance, economic empowerment, and national development under his leadership.

Akpabio made this commitment in his acceptance speech after being conferred as a Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) in Lagos on Friday, according to a statement by his media aide, Jackson Udom.

“The Senate’s commitment to progressive governance, economic empowerment, and national development remains unwavering. This honour will not be taken lightly; rather, it will inspire me to work harder, push further, and serve better,” he said.

He described the recognition as a testament to the values of service, excellence, and dedication to building a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

Acknowledging NIESV’s contributions, Akpabio praised the institution for over five decades of professionalism, integrity, and nation-building. He described estate surveyors and valuers as the architects of Nigeria’s urban transformation and custodians of the nation’s physical wealth, ensuring that cities are well-planned, investments are secure, and the economy is driven by accountability and strategic planning.

“Without you, the skylines of Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt would remain concepts, not realities. Without you, businesses would struggle to invest, and many Nigerians would see homeownership as just a dream,” he noted.

Akpabio dedicated the honour to the 10th National Assembly and the Nigerian people, emphasizing that leadership is about legacy.

He also described the recognition as a call to action, urging policymakers to craft laws and reforms that promote affordable housing, transparent land administration, and sustainable infrastructure.

“We must ensure that Nigeria’s land and property assets are managed with efficiency, integrity, and foresight to secure our economic future,” he said.

Addressing professionals in the real estate and valuation sector, Akpabio assured them that the government is listening. He reiterated that policies and laws must align with a vision where economic growth translates into tangible benefits for all Nigerians.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to service, noting that governance is ultimately about improving the lives of the people.
