Senate adjourns plenary till April 2 for budget defence

Nigerian-Senate

The Senate has suspended plenary to April 2 to enable relevant committees engage Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) on the defence of the N8.83 trillion 2019 budget.

This was sequel to a unanimous adoption of a motion by the Senate Majority Leader, Ahmad Lawan (APC, Yobe) at Wednesday plenary.

In his ruling, Senate President Bukola Saraki who presided over the session, urged all the standing committees to work and conclude budget defense on time.

BusinessDay reports that during budget sessions, standing committees serve sub-committees to the Appropriation Committee.

Prior to the adjournment, the Senate also confirmed the appointment of Abdu Abubakar as Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

This followed the adoption of the report of the Committee on Banking, Insurance and other Financial Institutions, chaired by Rafiu Ibrahim.
