Saliu Mustapha, senator representing Kwara Central, has dismissed the rumours that he had defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
The senator urged the general public to disregard the news circulating on social media which alleged that he had endorsed another party or defected thereto.
In a statement issued by his media aide, Nasif Sholagberu, the senator said: “Our attention has been drawn to a series of fabricated reports making the rounds on social media, falsely claiming that Senator Saliu Mustapha, the Turaki of Ilorin Emirate and senator representing Kwara Central, has endorsed or defected to another political party.
“As a matter of principle, we typically do not respond to fake news or engage its peddlers. This explains our dignified silence over the past weeks as baseless allegations, driven by mischief-makers, have been circulated recklessly online.
The originators and sponsors of these falsehoods are well-known, as are the motives and desperation fueling their actions. What they fail to grasp is that leadership and ambition are determined by the will of God Almighty, not by smear campaigns or misinformation.
“Senator Saliu Mustapha remains steadfast in his mandate to deliver quality representation to the good people of Kwara Central at the National Assembly. He is fully focused on this responsibility and will not be distracted by cheap and unfounded propaganda. To set the record straight: Senator Saliu Mustapha remains a committed, loyal, and founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC)”.
The statement further stated that “As one of the privileged signatories to the historic February 2013 agreement that merged three legacy parties into the APC, his contributions to the creation, growth, and continued success of the party are well-documented and widely respected among stakeholders and members.
“We urge the public to disregard this fake news and treat it as nothing more than the product of mischief-makers who lack constructive ideas.”
