Peter Obi has cleared a major hurdle in his 2027 presidential bid after securing clearance from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as the party’s sole presidential aspirant. The decision solidifies his position at the forefront of the party’s ticket ahead of the upcoming electoral cycle.
Following a rigorous screening exercise at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, the National Screening Committee confirmed his eligibility. Sam Egwu, the former Education Minister who chaired the committee, stated that Obi met all constitutional and Electoral Act requirements while providing satisfactory responses throughout the evaluation.

Party issues official nomination form to signal next campaign phase
Obi arrived at the secretariat accompanied by Senator Victor Umeh. Following the successful screening, party officials presented him with an official clearance letter alongside presidential nomination form numbered 001.
With the screening stage concluded, political attention now shifts to the party’s upcoming primary election. The endorsement sets the stage for the next phase of the 2027 political contest as opposition strategies begin to take shape.
