Over 14m youths register to vote as Nigerians clamour for change

Over fourteen million young Nigerians have now registered under a voter registration programme being facilitated by the electoral commission, INEC and groups like the ANAP foundation established by the leader banker Atedo Peterside.

Data from INEC’s site show that as of the morning of June 27, a total of 23,560,043 have registered including 6.28m other Nigerians aged between 35-49. Only 364,597n aged above 70 have so far registered.

Of the total, the males have a slight edge with 12.778 m registered while 11.2m was accounted for by female Nigerians.

The electoral commission said the total also includes applications for voter transfer as well as requests for the replacement of permanent voter’s cards.

In a statement on Twitter, Peterside said, “GoNigeria began its youth registration drive hoping to get 15m youths aged 18-34 to register and obtain their PVCs. As at June 27, INEC has registered 14,137,024 youths.”
