Samuel Ortom, the immediate past Governor of Benue State, has distanced himself from a viral social media poster, alleging that he is preparing to contest the 2027 Presidential election, describing the claim as false and misleading.

The disclaimer was contained in a statement signed by Terver Akase, Media Adviser/Consultant to the former governor, and obtained by BusinessDay from social media on Thursday.

According to the statement, “The attention of His Excellency Samuel Ortom has been drawn to a misleading poster making the rounds on social media, falsely claiming that the immediate past Governor of Benue State is vying for the 2027 presidential election”.

It further stated, “This claim is completely false, baseless, and an obvious handiwork of mischief makers bent on spreading confusion and misinformation “.

The statement maintained that Ortom, the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue Dtate has no ambition to contest the presidency or any other political office in the forthcoming elections, insisting that he had repeatedly made his position known publicly.

It also urged members of the public to ignore the poster entirely, describing it as a fabrication aimed at misleading unsuspecting citizens and creating unnecessary political speculation.

The statement reiterated its call for the public to verify information from credible sources and avoid circulating unverified political materials on social media platforms.

Recall that Ortom, the leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State, recently called for a strategic partnership between the All Progressives Congress (APC) faction of George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and the PDP in Benue State, and has consistently called for support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
