Obasa: Lagos lawmakers meet with Tinubu

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly are currently in Abuja to meet with President Bola Tinubu over the leadership crisis at the Assembly.

According to reports, the meeting was attended by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Kadri Hamzat, leader of the GAC, Tajudeen Olusi and other members.

The agenda of the meeting was not made public; but it is clear the removal of Obasa as Speaker of the House would be paramount among the issues to be addressed in the meeting.

The Lagos Assembly has been engulfed in crisis since the former speaker was impeached on January 13, 2025.

On Monday, February 3rd, members of the Governor’s Advisory Council and members of the Lagos State House of Assembly held a meeting at Lagos House Marina to discuss the issues at the Assembly.

More than 90 percent of members had voted to impeach Obasa, they had accused him of abuse of office and gross misconduct.

Over the weekend, there were speculations that President Tinubu had ordered that Obasa turn to his position, but the Assembly denied the reports, reaffirming that Mojisola Meranda remained the Speaker.

Similarly, the Department of State Services (DSS) last week intervened over a petition allegedly filed by Obasa concerning his removal as Speaker.

The DSS investigation followed Obasa’s alleged claims that his removal was politically motivated, rather than the alleged misconduct, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement.

After questioning the lawmakers for about six hours, all the detained lawmakers were released late Thursday.
