After months of widespread speculation, Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has formally exited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The announcement was made in a resignation letter addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State.
In the letter, Nwoko expressed his reasons for leaving the party, citing the deep divisions and internal strife that have plagued the PDP, both at the state and national levels.
He said, “I write to formally resign my membership from the PDP, a party I have proudly served as a foundation member since 1999.”
Nwoko, who has been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics for over two decades, explained that his decision stemmed from the growing fragmentation within the party.

The senator pointed out a specific incident that crystallized his decision.
On January 29, Nwoko witnessed a shocking public display of violence among top PDP functionaries, who engaged in a physical altercation due to the deepening factionalism.
This moment, he said, underscored the irreconcilable divisions within the party and the lack of unity, which he believed hindered the party’s ability to serve the interests of the people.
“These divisions have made it increasingly difficult to unite and pursue the collective interests of our people,” Nwoko wrote, emphasizing that it had become impossible to deliver on the promises he made during his campaign for re-election in the 2022/2023 senatorial race.
Nwoko also took a moment to acknowledge the opportunities and platform the PDP provided him, especially in contesting the senatorial election.
“I am also grateful for the platform the PDP provided me to contest the 2022/2023 senatorial election, which allowed me to directly engage with the people of my constituency and present my vision for a brighter future,” he stated.
However, despite his gratitude, the senator was clear about his commitment to his constituents. “During my campaign, I made solemn and actionable promises to my constituents—commitments I take seriously as a servant of the people,” he noted.
With the current structure of the PDP in the state failing to support his agenda, Nwoko expressed that it was in the best interest of the people he served to part ways with the party and explore new avenues for fulfilling his political obligations.
“My decision to resign is not taken lightly,” Nwoko assured, adding that his ultimate goal was to ensure progress and prosperity for Delta North. He expressed confidence that his defection to the APC would provide a better platform for advancing the interests of his constituents.
While the political shift has sent ripples through the local and national political landscape, Nwoko remained committed to unity and progress in his farewell message.
He added. “While I bid farewell to my membership in the PDP, I assure all party members and my constituents of my unwavering dedication to statesmanship, unity, and the advancement of Delta North.”
