The Enugu State governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Peter Mbah has promised to grow the state’s economy to an enviable position, using the private sector to drive the economy, if he wins the 2023 election.

In his first meeting with newsmen in Enugu recently, Mbah said that it was his projection to grow the state economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion with the private sector playing greater role in the economic development of the state.

According to him, Enugu is blessed with oil and other solid mineral deposits in large quantities, and hopes to harness them to grow the economy.

Mbah also unveiled his running mate, Ifeanyi Ossai, a lawyer from Ezimo in Udenu Local Government Area of the state.

Mbah, who is also the CEO of Pinnacle Oil company, said Enugu would be opened to the world for business, pointing out that the ease of doing business would be made a priority and private sector would be given the opportunity to drive the economy

He said that his zeal to become the governor of the state was borne out of a desire to serve his people and drive away poverty from the people.

“When you are driven by transcendent value, it means a lot on how your decision is going to impact positively on others and that is why I’m running for the governorship office in Enugu State because I want to touch lives and bring my people out from poverty.

“What drove me to what I am doing today is that I want to serve my people and it’s beyond myself because we want to put smile on the faces of our people,” he said.

The candidate, who was a former commissioner for finance and chief of staff in Enugu State, said his team would like to create something that is unique, intervene on critical areas to improve the economy and living standard of the people.

According to him, “We have been running Peter Mbah Foundation in Enugu State before now and it’s a charity organisation in which we are using to touch lives and we have built roads, hospitals as well as educational projects and we are ready to do more.

“We have intervened in many communities and no citizen in the state was ever denied treatment in our hospital as a result of lack of funds as we ensure that everybody enjoys quality medical services.

“What we are going to witness in Enugu is going to be massive. We will enable private sector development and open Enugu State for business as we will invite private sectors to inject huge funds for the development of the state.
