Late arrival of electoral officials as well as low turnout of voters marred the ongoing local government elections in Igando, Alimosho LGA on Saturday.

The local council polls kicked off across 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs in Lagos State on Saturday. While voting has commenced as early as 8am in some areas, the exercise is yet to begin in many polling units in Igando.

As at 11am, voting is yet to commence in the four polling units inside Igando Community High School.

Our reporter also observed low turnout of voters at many polling stations in the community.

Speaking with journalists at Igando Community High School, where she is expected to cast her vote, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the secretary to the state government, urged voters to come out and cast their votes for the candidates of their choice. She also confirmed the late arrival of officials in the community, saying that the situation is under control.

“Come out and vote, it doesn’t take time,” Salu-Hundeyin urged the electorate. “Just come out and exercise your civic responsibility.”
