Leaders and stakeholders from Kwara North Senatorial District, on Tuesday, declared their support for the second-term bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A peaceful rally held at the Metropolitan Square, Ilorin, the stakeholders said the President had performed creditably and deserves another term in office.
Addressing the gathering, on behalf of leaders and stakeholders from the district, Issa Bio Ibrahim, Former Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly and two-time Minister, announced the resolve of the people of Kwara North to support any of their sons who emerges as the gubernatorial candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in a bid to enable the District produce the State’s governor for the first time since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999.
The rally was attended by gubernatorial aspirants from Kwara North, including Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Sadiq Umar, Senator representing Kwara Nort; Mohammed Bio; and Tajudeen Audu.
Ibrahim stated that the cooperation of all gubernatorial aspirants from the district had been secured toward achieving this goal.
He appealed to the people of Kwara Central and Kwara South to support Kwara North’s bid to produce the next governor in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of traditional rulers in the district, Muhammad Kudu Kawu, the Emir of Lafiagi, described the agitation for power shift as a reflection of the longstanding aspirations of the people.
According to him, Kwara North has remained on the margins of the state’s top leadership for decades despite its contributions to electoral victories and political stability.
He noted that the District has consistently demonstrated loyalty and unity during elections, significantly contributing to the success of the ruling party, and therefore deserves consideration in the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness.
Kawu urged stakeholders in Kwara Central and Kwara South to cede the governorship seat to Kwara North, stressing that such a move would strengthen unity and sustain the state’s reputation as the “State of Harmony.”
Also speaking, AbdulMumin Katibi,
a former lawmaker and Commissioner for Information, presented statistical data showing that Kwara North recorded the second-largest voting bloc after Kwara Central in previous elections.
He said this demonstrates the District’s consistent role in the emergence of governors from Kwara Central and Kwara South.
Katibi added that the time has come for the other two senatorial districts to reciprocate Kwara North’s support.
Kwara has three Senatorial Districts; Kwara South; Kwara Central, and Kwara North.
