The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday commended the resilience of Nigerians in the face of challenging economic hardship, urging the public not to surrender to despair.

Jurgudo Haruna Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary of the party, in a message to commemorate Nigeria’s 27th Democracy Day, paid tribute to the resilience, patriotism, and unwavering commitment of citizens to democratic governance despite prevailing challenges. The opposition party urged Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast in the democratic process.

Democracy remains strongest guarantee for accountability

“While our nation continues to face significant political and economic challenges, the party urges Nigerians not to lose faith in democracy or despair about the future of our country,” the statement read. “Democracy remains our strongest guarantee for accountable leadership, national development, and the protection of citizens’ rights.”

The party described the challenges confronting the nation as temporary and surmountable. It noted that through responsible leadership, strong democratic institutions, and the collective resolve of the people, the nation can overcome its present difficulties and achieve lasting peace, prosperity, and progress.

Opposition positions as viable alternative for governance

“Together, through unity, resilience, and active civic participation, we can build a stronger, more prosperous, and inclusive nation,” Mohammed added. “As a party with a rich democratic heritage, we remain the most viable alternative for the promotion, defence, and sustenance of democratic values in Nigeria.”

He assured that the party remains committed to providing purposeful leadership and working with Nigerians to restore hope, strengthen institutions, and build a nation that works for everyone.
