An aspirant for the Nnewi North, Nnewi South, and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Okafor Anthony Ikenna, has expressed confidence in his capacity to represent his people after collecting his expression of interest and nomination forms at the Labour Party (LP) National Secretariat in Abuja.
Legislative harmony and constituent development
Addressing journalists after purchasing his forms, Okafor promised to work in harmony with his colleagues at the National Assembly to attract sustainable development to his constituency. He emphasised that his legislative agenda would focus on collaborative efforts to bridge infrastructure gaps in the region.
Okafor also pledged to remain a loyal party member, affirming the supremacy of the Labour Party’s internal structures. He frowned at those who had previously left the party and called on them to return, noting that the organisation is now being led by seasoned veterans.
“I love the Labour Party because this is the only party that is stable now,” Okafor said. “I am not the type that can jump between parties, and I will never defect to any other political party in Nigeria, even after my election.”
Call for inclusive party leadership
Okafor urged the new leadership of the party to run an inclusive administration and congratulated them on their recent election. He noted that a united front would be essential for the party’s success in the upcoming polls across various federal and state constituencies.
The secretariat saw a flurry of activity as several other aspirants also picked up their nomination forms. These include Rejoice Emmanuel, seeking a seat in the Taraba State House of Assembly, and Reuben Wunuji Filibus, for the Wukari I State Constituency.
Other aspirants present included Abdulrazak Haruna Magaji for the Taraba State House of Assembly; Njoku Chiedozie for the Ngor Okpala State House of Assembly in Imo State; and Bala Samuel Sanfo for the Wukari/Ibi Federal Constituency in Taraba State.
Widening field of legislative candidates
The list of candidates further includes Onyekachi Ujunwa Aghasili, who is running for the House of Representatives seat for the Awka North and South Federal Constituency in Anambra State. The diversity of the candidates suggests a broad geographical reach for the party in the current electoral cycle.
The sale of nomination forms is expected to continue tomorrow at the National Secretariat, as the party prepares its roster for the upcoming legislative contests.
