Peter Obi, former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has urged members of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) to avoid litigation and internal disputes, warning that court battles could weaken the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the appeal in remarks captured in a video on Sunday, shortly after he and former Kano State governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, were issued membership cards of the party, signalling their formal entry into the NDC.
Addressing party members, Obi stressed the need for unity and discipline, noting that internal legal battles have historically undermined political parties in Nigeria.
“Please, let there be no litigation. Party members should not go to court. We want to build a party; we are not lawyers,” he said.
He also appealed to the judiciary to expedite political cases, saying prolonged disputes distract from the task of nation-building.
