President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday presided over a meeting with Governors elected on the platform of the ruling party, the All Progressive Congress, APC.
The meeting which is being conducted via electronic conferencing is taking place at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja
The meeting, according to Businessday sources is scheduled to receive an interim report from the 13 member Interim National Executive Committee (NEC) of the led by Yobe Governor, Mala Buni
It is also assessing the party,s preparedness for the Edo and Ondo elections
The internal crises experienced by the party had led to the dissolution of the National Working Committee (NWC) led by Adams Oshiomhole.
The committee has since its inauguration, embarked on tour of states in a bid to reconcile aggrieved members.
The meeting is also being used to assess preparations ahead of the planned nationwide Congresses that will culminate into the pàrty,s national congress that will select a new national executive for the party in December
The party had given the interim National Committee six months within which to conclude its assignment.
The committee, which is also the Convention Planning panel, is mandated to organise a convention within six months to produce the new National Working Committee NWC of the party
The meeting is assessing the progress so far ahead of the December convention, as aspirants to party offices and their sponsors embark on consultations and intra-party mobilisation.
Based on antecedents, the chairmanship battle may become fierce as whoever emerge as chairman will play very crucial roles in the 2023 presidential nomination.
The contest for party offices will still be shaped by zoning.
The Committee was repotedly fine tuning a zoning policy that will see the Chairman emerge from the South since Presidency is in the North
It is also expected that thr existing micro-zoning to the Southsouth may subsist.
The Interim committee is working to ensure a peaceful convention in December by ensuring that nominations are ratified at zonal level.
The contests for disputed cases will however, be decided by voting at the convention.
