Sunday Biggs, a former governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general elections has formally resigned his membership from the party, signaling a fresh shift in Plateau State’s political landscape.

In a resignation letter dated April 21, 2026, and addressed to the APC Chairman of Mangu Ward II in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, obtained by BusinessDay on Wednesday in Jos, Biggs said his decision takes immediate effect after years of active involvement in the party.

“I write to formally tender my resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), effective immediately,” he stated.

“This decision was not taken lightly, having been a committed and active member of the party for over four years. During this period, I had the privilege of serving the party in various capacities, including offering myself as a gubernatorial aspirant in 2022,” he added.

Biggs explained that his contributions were driven by a desire to strengthen the party’s structures and advance its ideals across Plateau State, noting that he remained dedicated throughout his time in the APC.

However, the former aspirant said recent political developments and ongoing realignments across the country informed his decision to chart a new course in pursuit of his political ambitions.

“However, in view of the current political realignments across the country and after deep personal reflection, I have resolved to take a different path in pursuit of my political aspirations,” he said.

Despite his resignation, Biggs expressed gratitude to party leaders and members, acknowledging the support and relationships he built during his stay, while wishing the APC success in its future engagements and contributions to Nigeria’s democracy.

Reacting to the development in a telephone interview with BusinessDay on Wednesday in Jos, Wumanna Bako, the APC Publicity Secretary said the party was yet to officially receive Biggs’ resignation letter but described the situation as unfortunate if confirmed.

“Well, you know, as a party, we need more people. We are a principled political party that believes in the tenets of democracy. Where there are misunderstandings, we try as much as possible to resolve them internally. However, every individual has the right to choose the political party they believe in.

“Regarding the resignation of Sunday Biggs, I have not officially seen a copy of the letter; I have only come across the information on social media platforms. So, I cannot fully confirm it at this point. But if the news is true, it is quite unfortunate that we have lost him. He contributed his quota while in the APC. For now, the party has received the news with mixed feelings,” he said.

BusinessDay observes that the resignation marks a significant political development in the state, especially given that Biggs hails from the same local government area as Governor Caleb Mutfwang. Attention is now turning to his next political move as primaries ahead of the 2027 elections approach.
