The national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which is the highest decision-making organ of the party on Friday night in Abuja, approved a six-month extension of the tenure of caretaker committees in Ekiti and Osun states.

The resolution followed a motion moved by the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin (APC, Kano North), who cited heightened tensions and security concerns ahead of the off-cycle governorship elections in both states.

Senator Barau said the prevailing situation did not provide a conducive environment for the conduct of party congresses, necessitating the extension.

He noted that the motion was in line with Article 13(1) of the APC constitution.

Barau’s motion was seconded by the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele (APC, Ekiti Central).

The convention also adopted and ratified the outcomes of ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses conducted across the country.

The motion for adoption was moved by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and seconded by Imo State governor and Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum (PGF), Hope Uzodimma.

In addition, the convention endorsed the consensus method for the election of national officers. The motion was moved by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and seconded by Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani.
