The Lagos State consensus governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Laja Adeoye, on Wednesday formally declared his ambition to contest the 2027 Lagos governorship election, declaring that residents of the state were tired of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after over two decades in power.

Adeoye made the declaration at Ward F5, Ejigbo, in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area, where party leaders, coalition members and supporters of the PDP-APM alliance gathered in large numbers to endorse his ambition.

The former PDP governorship aspirant, who emerged as the consensus candidate of the APM following the alignment of the Gov. Seyi Makinde-backed PDP faction with the party, said Lagos residents were yearning for fresh leadership, new ideas and people-focused governance.

“The truth is that Lagos residents are tired. They have seen the ideas and style of governance since 1999, and they are yearning for something new,” Adeoye declared.

“The people want fresh ideas, fresh faces, fresh leadership and a fresh governor. That is what I represent.”

He promised to run an accountable, compassionate and accessible administration if elected governor in 2027, assuring residents that he would prioritise their welfare and remain connected to the grassroots.

“I will not be a detached or inaccessible governor; I will be a governor for the people at all times,” he said.

Adeoye said his candidacy symbolised a grassroots movement determined to reclaim Lagos for ordinary residents, stressing that his roots across Isolo, Ikorodu and Epe positioned him as a true son of the soil.

“I am not someone who came from outside to ride on the popularity of this place. This is my home. I belong here,” he said.

The governorship hopeful also unveiled his “Atunto Eko 1.0” manifesto, which he described as a blueprint for rebuilding Lagos through inclusive prosperity, poverty reduction and people-oriented governance.

According to him, the APM’s “Cassava” logo represented the determination of the coalition to combat hunger, hardship and economic inequality in the state.
“We want to fight suffering and hunger in Lagos. Our ‘Cassava’ logo symbolises our determination to banish poverty,” he stated.

Adeoye defended the PDP-APM alliance, saying the coalition became necessary due to internal crises within the PDP and what he described as attempts to weaken opposition politics across the country.

“Both PDP and APM have become siblings. We have become a formidable platform to oppose one-party dominance and provide a credible alternative to the APC,” he said.

He urged members of the coalition to remain united ahead of the 2027 election, insisting that the opposition had a realistic chance of defeating the APC if it maintained grassroots mobilisation and internal cohesion.

“We must not see impossibility; it is very possible. 2027 is our election to win because we are grassroots politicians,” Adeoye said.

Speaking at the event, Lagos State APM Chairman, Bunmi Adeyemo, declared that the party remained united and free from factional disputes.

“Our party does not have factions. We are one. This governorship ambition is already a done deal,” Adeyemo said.

Also speaking, Lagos State PDP Chairman and PDP-APM Coalition Chairman, Amos Fawole, described the APM as a welcoming platform for opposition forces seeking political change in Lagos.

“We are confident this alliance will yield positive results in 2027,” Fawole said.
The Lagos State Secretary of APM, Kayode Kolapo, assured Adeoye of the commitment of party leaders and structures toward actualising the governorship project.

Meanwhile, PDP elder in Oshodi-Isolo, Oladipo Dosunmu, described Adeoye as a courageous and marketable candidate, urging party members to intensify mobilisation among women and youths.

Also, the PDP Vice Chairman in Oshodi-Isolo, Sade Solomon, expressed confidence that Adeoye would make Lagos wealth work for ordinary residents if elected governor.

Campaign Coordinator of the Laja Adeoye Campaign Organisation (LACO), Ademola Alebiosu, said the opposition alliance remained politically strong in Oshodi-Isolo and would surprise many observers in the 2027 elections.

The declaration event attracted PDP and APM executives, coalition leaders, party elders, aspirants and supporters from across Lagos State.
