9th National Assembly: Osinbajo moves to placate Ndume

Yemi Osinbajo

As the All Progressive Congress APC moves to avoid a repeat of the leadership challenge the party faced in 2015, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday continued efforts to ensure the emergence of Ahmed Lawan as the party’s preferred candidate.

Vice President Osinbajo met for hours on Monday behind closed doors with Ali Ndume, who is also laying claims to the Senate exulted seat.

The meeting is coming against the backdrop of threats to expel Ndume if he continues to request to be the next Senate President ahead of Ahmed Lawan, who is the party’s anointed candidate.

The party’s move is to avoid a repeat of the crises in 2015 which led to the emergence of Bukola Saraki as the Senate President.

The party has continued to insist on Ahmed Lawan for the Senate Presidency, while also pushing for Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The outcome of the meeting was not immediately known as both parties kept sealed lips after the meeting.

But BusinessDay Villa sources revealed that efforts were on to placate Ndume to drop his ambition.
