No fewer than 70 governorship aspirants on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday appeared for screening in Abuja as the party commenced the exercise ahead of its 2027 governorship primaries.

Among those screened were former Adamawa State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Jibrilla (Bindow); former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (Kebbi); former Delta State governorship candidate, Great Ogboru; Senator representing Nasarawa South, Mohammed Onawo; former Lagos State governorship candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour; and former military officer, Gen. John Surai (Plateau).

Others included Dr. Shehu Ahmad Issa (Zamfara); Oloye Adeboyega Taofik Adegoke (Oyo); Senator Halliru Dauda Jika (Bauchi); Barrister Kashim Geidam (Yobe); Musa Halilu Ahmed (Adamawa); Nuhu Agbazu (Nasarawa); Emmanuel Unuafe (Delta); Bashir Adamu (Jigawa); Ambassador Umar Suleiman (Adamawa); Leloonu Nwibubasa (Rivers); and Peter Adejo (Benue), among several others.

Speaking with journalists after the exercise, Queen Okiyi, the ADC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, said the screening process was progressing smoothly, with more aspirants expected to appear before the panels.

“In total, we have screened over 70 governorship aspirants today, and the exercise continues tomorrow! Tuesday. We have more than 100 governorship aspirants across the country, so the screening exercise will continue until all of them are attended to,” she said.

The screening exercise is part of the party’s preparations for its governorship primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
