2019: 48 political parties vow to oust Buhari

Ahead of the February 16, 2019 presidential election, the number of political parties that have vowed to oust President Muhammadu Buhari from office has increased to 48.

This followed the joining of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) by 10 new political parties on Monday in Abuja.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier announced that a total of a total of 73 of Nigeria’s 91 political political parties had filed their nominations for the 2019 presidential election.

Some of the 10 new political parties that joined the CUPP on Monday include: Save Nigeria Congress(SNC), United Patriots (UP); Reformed and Advancement Party (RAP); Alliance for Social Democrats, (ASD); We the People Nigeria(WPP) among others.

At a brief ceremony in Abuja to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), Chairman of the steering committee of CUPP and former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola, announced that another set of six political parties had already submitted applications to be part of the Coalition.

Specifically, Oyinlola called on President Buhari and the APC to immediately throw in the towel before they are disgraced at the poll.

According to him, developments in the country were clear indications that Buhari and the APC were not prepared for leadership.

On how the CUPP would withdraw presidential candidates of its members parties from participating in the election, Oyinlola said: “We are working against a General and we need to be strategic, so I will not go beyond that”.

About two weeks ago, the CUPP had adopted PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar as their sole presidential candidate.
