The authorities of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Osun State, has warned incoming students of the university that has just been admitted for the various courses 2015/2016 academic session, not to pay tuition fees and other required fees into any bank accounts as academic activities have been started.
Speaking through a press statement issued weekend in Osogbo, Abiodun Olanrewaju, public relations officer of the institution, said:, “The attention of the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has been drawn to the plight of some candidates seeking admission to our University who claimed that they have been paying acceptance and school fees to a nebulous account which was opened by a fraudster.
“The First Bank of Nigeria PLC. Account number 3103284809 has one Professor Haruna Jeminetu as the account name. There is no such name as Professor Haruna Jeminetu in our University and the said account number has nothing to do with our University in whatever guise.”
A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, added that the University has not asked candidates to be paying acceptance/school fees for now because the timetable for resumption for the 2015/2016 academic session has not been released, neither have we asked candidates to resume for the session.
He added that Obafemi Awolowo University is a Federal University and as such the institution does not charge tuition or asks anybody, agent or group of people to collect tuition on its behalf.
According to Olarewaju: “we want to use this medium to advise parents, guardians and candidates concerned to be weary of paying into individuals account numbers irrespective of the academic title used by such fraudsters.
“OAU is a University of international repute which has a well known website. Therefore, anything that is not seen on the website and is being brandied about should be totally disregarded.
“Thus far, the security unit of the University had arrested three persons in connection with admission racketeering within the last three weeks, and the members of the public should totally discountenance any call from anybody or group of people asking them to pay any amount whatsoever into individuals personal account.
“In view of the above, the University spokesman urged candidates to exercise more patience as the University administration would soon publicly advertise the date of the resumption, the banks to which candidates of each of the faculties would pay into and the date and time of resumption of orientation and academic activities.”
