Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Charles Udoh, has expressed optimism that the state would in no distant time provide massive employment opportunities to its citizens.
Udoh, who made this known recently in his office, emphasised that “with the influx of industries into the state, unemployment will soon become a thing of the past.”
He reiterated that Gov. Udom Emmanuel is diversifying the state economy, with special attention on industrialisation, agriculture, education and tourism, indicating that government’s premium on agriculture is geared at the reduction in market prices of farm produce.
The Commissioner explained that his office is saddled with the responsibility of projecting government policies, programmes and achievements, adding that with the pencils and toothpicks factory in Etinan and the syringe industry in ONNA, with production capacity of 400,000 syringes per annum, the government has created an enabling environment for the realisation of its industrialisation dream.
Describing Governor Emmanuel as “a man who sees tomorrow “, Udoh said the governor deserves commendation because in spite of economic recession in the country, he has been able to effectively manage the resources available to the state to ensure speedy actualisation of industries as well as provide 18-hour daily power supply to the people.
He called on Akwa Ibom people to key into the industrialisation agenda of the state government by becoming key suppliers of the factories’ raw materials and distributors of finished products rather than idling away and making unnecessary criticism.
The Information boss said that the state government spends six hundred million naira annually on WAEC fees for children in state secondary schools and advised students to make good use of the opportunity.
According to him, Governor Emmanuel took over leadership of Akwa Ibom State at the right time, when his people needed him most, to grapple with the serious downturn in the economy, stressing too that even with the lean resources, he has been able to meet the needs of the people.
