As family bonds continue to duffer setback on the back of virtual reality and mediated media built on the 21st century technology adoption, Bestman Games, a Nigerian board game company, recently unveiled its first proprietary game, The Bible Game, to help bridge the bonding gap among families.

The Bible Game, which is available in both digital and board game component, is seen as an ideal tool to mitigate the high level of moral decadence in Nigeria.

At the unveiling of the game in Lagos, Nimi Akinkugbe, founder/CEO, Bestman Games Limited, emphasized the importance of gaming as a bonding tool, saying learning through play and games help bring people together as a unit.

“I know the importance of gaming because I grew up playing board games and I know the importance of families coming together to play,” Akinkugbe in a welcome address at the unveiling.

Across the world, she said, society and family ties have broken down due to today’s dysfunctional society system, adding, however, that through “our game we can begin to bring people together to build relationships in families, schools, offices, among colleagues, because of the importance of bonding”.

“The Bible is full of powerful messages about life; learning through games is a powerful tool. We are using our games to educate, engage, and entertain, and this Bible Game does all that,” she said.

In his remarks, Ituah Ighodalo, a Lagos-based pastor, said the church has a key role to play in ensuring family bonding and society values.

“It’s been done in such a way that it reflects life, society, what we go through and the fact that there is a challenge in everyone’s life, and the only way out of that challenge is knowing the word of God and being able to appropriate that word,” Ighodalo said.

Yinka Omololu, a former provost, Cathedral Church of Christ, said there was an urgent need for families to spend quality time together, especially with the children. According to him, the family could either build up or destroy the child, hence the need for people to learn to do things together as a family.

Odein Ajumogobia, chairman, Bestman Games, on his part highlighted the need to protect intellectual property in Nigeria to support and promote creativity.

“There is property in the creation and we need to protect it. Also young people need to be given a chance to build their confidence within the society,” he said.

In December 2012, Bestman Game launched the City of Lagos edition of Monopoly, the first African city edition of Hasbro’s world famous board game.

Building on that success, the company said The Bible Game will be available in stores from December 10, while those interested in playing the board game can register to play on the last Thursday of each month at Terra Kulture, Lagos.
