The North East Development Commission has expressed it’s readiness to reconstruct a total collapsed bridge linking Goza, Maiduguri and Madagali In Adamawa state.
The sad event which happened after a heavy downpour on Thursday 15th July has left the people of Madagali community divastated, helpless and their farms submerged by the incident.
Mohammed Alkali Goni, the Managing Director ENDC described the event as unfortunate, disclosing that president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has mandated the commission and has approved the immediate action of reconstruction of the bridge to ease the hardship faced by the community
He made the disclosure while on the spot assessment, stating that temporary measures will be done to enable those coming from Borno to go about their activities and also the community members
Mohammed Alkali also stressed that the project is going to be extended to other connecting culvert, adding that if that is not done it could lead to lost of lives.
The MD also had a stop over at Wotto bridge, a community near Madagali to assess the damage caused by erosion on the bridge, he assured them of a lasting solution by the commission.
In their separate remarks while narrating their ordeal Matthew Zagi, said since the collapse of the bridge people have been left stranded, suffering and unable to go about their normal businesses.
Stressing that so many farm lands have been swept out. He further stressed that it has also become difficult for the people to travel to nearby villages, he called on the government to treat this as a matter of urgency.
On his part, Yahaya Aliyu disclose that even though they are suffering, at the same time they have used the event as an opportunity for minial jobs.
