NBA absent from National Conference

PRESIDENT OF THE NIGERIAN BAR ASSOCIATION, OKEY WALI, SAN

One of the critical resolutions at the recently held National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association was the decision by the association to exempt itself from participation at the ongoing National Conference since its slot allocation was not increased.

The Executive Committee had viewed as unacceptable, the allocation of one slot to the association to represent the Nigerian Bar at the conference; given the number of lawyers in the country.

They noted the barrage of legal issues to be addressed at the Conference, stating that it was only fitting and proper for the umbrella Association of all lawyers, the profession with expertise on law making in Nigeria, should have more than one slot.

Thus, the house affirmed that it would be unable to make the needed impact and so will not participate in the National Conference if the one slot allocation is not increased.

In another development, the NBA has sent its condolence to the families of two of our NEC members, BABALOLA APATA, NBA Lagos Branch Secretary who passed away on his way to Lagos University Teaching Hospital as a result of the injuries he sustained from a motor accident while in transit to NBA-NEC in Ado-Ekiti some days ago, and ISAAC KWAKFUT, former Chairman of Pankshin Branch, who took ill in Ado-Ekiti and died on his way back to Jos, at the end of the meeting.
