The merger between two top commercial law firms, Sterling Partnership and Wali-Uwais & Co has led to the birth of a new law firm, known as Primera Africa Legal  (PAL).

Sterling Partnership is a commercial law firm dedicated to providing world class and pragmatic legal support. It has offices in Lekki, Lagos and Abuja. Wali-Uwais & Co is a full service law firm within the capital city, Abuja – Nigeria. The Firm is committed to providing a wide variety of legal consultancy, corporate & commercial and litigation services.

Speaking at the unveiling of the new law firm, one of the founding partners and former President, Commonwealth Lawyers Association (CLA), Boma Ozobia spoke of the firm’s objective to provide improved service to its clients, “particularly for larger transactions,” she said.

“We would encourage other firms to come together in a similar fashion, as there are influx of transactions where extensive number of lawyers are required to deliver efficient service.” She also noted that it was difficult to assemble a team of experts at short notice just to bid for that piece of work.

She continued, “Our vision is to work even more closely with our American Law Firm Alliance (ALFA), international Africa-member firms to provide a seamless service to our clients on the continent. We have partner firms in Ghana, Egypt, Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, Zambia and Mauritius, and we are still growing the network.

Also speaking at the event, the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Abubakar Balarabe Mahmoud, SAN called on lawyers to build larger partnerships to improve service delivery to clients in a globalised world.

PAL is made up of former partners of Sterling Partnership and Wali-Uwais, both established law firms. They include, Boma Ozobia, Isreal Aye, the Managing Partner, while Maryam Uwais, the founding partner of Wali Uwais will join the partnership after her period of service in government.
