Ace law firm, Banwo & Ighodalo (B&I) turned 23 this February. The firm which started operations on February 1st, 1991 has grown into a world class law firm, through its innovative solutions offered to clients.

The firm which has grown into a six-man partnership with more than forty (40) lawyers, recently made a strategic change in its corporate identity, with the unveiling of a new brand that reflects the organisation’s new direction, expanded services and latest business approach.

B&I’s corporate commercial practice is consistently ranked as a leading Nigerian law firm in the areas of Capital Markets, Securities, Mergers & Acquisitions and one of the top five law firms in Corporate Finance & Restructuring, Project Finance, Foreign Investment & Divestment, Energy & Natural Resources.

As legal advisers, B&I drafted model Power Purchase Agreements and Vesting Contracts proposed to be adopted by the NERC for trading in electricity in the evolving Nigerian electricity market.

The firm also advised Mainstream Energy Solutions Limited in connection with its successful bid for a concession to manage and operate Kainji and Jebba hydro-power stations, and was actively involved in the industry’s wide recapitalizations and mergers within the Nigerian banking sector, which resulted from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s 2010/2011 findings.

Some of the firm’s significant banking transactions include, its involvement as

counsel in connection with a US$15 Million Rubber-Receivables Revolving Pre-Shipment Finance Facility made available to Imoniyame Holdings Limited; and the Multi-million Dollar receivables trade finance facility advanced to Agro Traders Limited to fund its procurement of cocoa beans for the 2009/2010 Nigerian cocoa harvest for export to Europe. This transaction was awarded Deal of the Year 2009 by the Global Trade Review.
